The State Puts a Noose Around the Necks of Shipwrights

Shipwrights at the Limassol shipyard are facing a critical situation as the government has given them an ultimatum to leave the area without indicating an alternative space. These craftsmen, who maintain a decades-long family tradition, feel they are being persecuted by the state. The government's decision is attributed to pressure from large investors who want to develop the area with towers and other large-scale business activities. Shipwrights accuse the state of injustice and disregard, as their presence contributed to the promotion and preservation of the traditional image of the coastal city. Two months ago, officials from the Department of Lands and Surveys, accompanied by the Police, posted eviction notices in the shipwrights' premises, demanding the demolition and removal of all structures within 30 days. Non-compliance is threatened with legal action. The shipwrights declare their determination to resist their professional extermination and defend their tradition. They believe that the government is seeking to "dismantle" the shipyard and level the beach to advance the plans of investors.
