Pentagon Puts 1,500 Troops on Alert for Possible Deployment to Minnesota

The Pentagon has ordered approximately 1,500 troops to prepare for possible deployment to Minnesota, according to a report by the Washington Post. The move is described as a “prudent” plan, sources say, in anticipation of potential escalation of violence in the area. The order came after President Trump threatened to activate a special order if local authorities do not stop protests targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Trump had warned that he would use the Insurrection Act if Minnesota officials did not suppress the protesters. This threat sparked strong reactions, as many feared it could lead to the suppression of legitimate protests. Meanwhile, protesters against ICE pushed back a small group of far-right activists who attempted to march in a neighborhood of Minneapolis where many immigrants live. The protesters gathered in the city center and prevented the far-right activists from proceeding, throwing water balloons at them and chanting slogans. The police maintained a distance during the confrontations, and the far-right activists were forced to take refuge in a hotel to escape the protesters. This incident demonstrates the tension in the area following the death of Reneé Goode in a shooting by an ICE agent 10 days ago.
