Raouna to Chair First Council of General Affairs Under Cypriot Presidency

The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, will chair the first Council of General Affairs (CGA) under the Cypriot Presidency in Brussels on Monday. As part of her presidency, Ms. Raouna will present Cyprus' priorities, which include the new Multiannual Financial Framework, the rule of law, simplification of legislation, EU enlargement, and EU-UK relations. A country-specific discussion on the rule of law will be held, focusing on Estonia, Denmark, Greece, and Spain. Views will also be exchanged on the European Shield of Democracy, with the aim of strengthening Europe's democratic resilience. Ms. Raouna will also chair an informal working breakfast with the President of the Conference of Committee Chairs of the European Parliament, Bernd Lange, and the 25th Intergovernmental Conference EU-Montenegro. In addition, she will present the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency to the Committees of the European Parliament, such as the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), and the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO). She will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Cristina Gherasimov.
