Need for Limiting University Institutions - DIPAE President in 'P' Newspaper

The president of the Cyprus Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (DIPAE), Dr. Mary Koutselini, emphasizes the need to limit the growth of university institutions in Cyprus to ensure academic quality. Despite the adaptation of higher education, the increase in universities and study programs, combined with the rise in international students, creates challenges. DIPAE requests that the state establish clear policies and criteria, especially for the establishment of medical schools (requiring a university hospital and research staff) and new universities (requiring student dormitories and a research background). It also suggests limiting distance learning programs in proportion to undergraduate programs. Without these restrictions, there is a risk that universities will turn into postgraduate centers, while medical students may be forced to complete their clinical training abroad. The control of foreign students is based on their knowledge of the English language and their diplomas.
