Ministry of Finance: Interest in 10-Year Bond is a Historic Event

The Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, described the interest shown in the €1 billion 10-year bond issued by the Republic of Cyprus as a historic event, with bids reaching €16.5 billion. He emphasized that the secured interest rate of 3.25% is the lowest in recent bond issues by other countries, such as Greece and Portugal. The Minister of Finance stated that this demonstrates the recognition by foreign investors of the correct economic policy pursued by the government, which creates stability and security for investments. He also clarified that the bond issue does not constitute additional debt, but a replacement for a maturing bond, and that public debt has already been reduced to 55%, exceeding the initial target of 60%. 80% of the bids came from international investors, mainly from the United Kingdom, the Scandinavian countries, and Portugal.
