Outrage in Paphos: Kitten Shot – Environmentalists Movement Condemns

The Environmentalists Movement – Citizens Cooperation condemns another animal abuse incident in the Paphos district. The new incident involves a cat found seriously injured in the village of Acheleia, with a gunshot pellet lodged in its nose. The Movement notes that this is not an isolated incident, but part of a series of violent acts against defenseless animals, which constitute a criminal offense. The Environmentalists Movement demands an immediate and thorough investigation of the incident, the identification and exemplary punishment of those responsible, and the intensification of controls and preventive measures by the competent authorities. It calls on citizens to contact the authorities if they have any information. Furthermore, the Environmentalists Movement criticizes the operation of the Animal Police, arguing that it is not adequately responding to its duty to protect animals. It demands the creation of an independent 'Animal Police' force with the sole mission of protecting animals and enforcing relevant legislation. This incident highlights the need for increased awareness and more effective measures to protect animals in Cyprus, as well as strengthening cooperation between authorities and civil society.
