Police Unions Warn of Measures if Dialogue on Working Hours Fails

PASYDY and the Cyprus Police Association (SPA) announced they will approach the dialogue on police working hours with a constructive attitude, but warn they will consider taking retaliatory measures if the dialogue does not yield the expected results. The two organizations expressed strong dissatisfaction with the statements of the Chief of Police, which they believe ignore labor institutions and undermine agreements reached in the MEP. The issue of reorganization and modernization of the Police Force will be discussed by the House Legal Committee on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. PASYDY and SPA welcome the invitation to participate in the MEP on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, with the aim of substantial discussion and resolution of labor issues. The organizations are committed to respecting the institution of dialogue and seeking to resolve differences through negotiation, but warn that if the rights and interests of their members are not secured, they will reconsider their position and examine the taking of retaliatory measures, with responsibility and respect for society.
