When the Video Speaks and Political Responsibility Remains Silent

The video that has circulated and caused a political earthquake reveals the absence of political responsibility at the highest level in Cyprus. The Presidential response, with the resignations of subordinates, is seen as an attempt to avoid taking responsibility by President Nikos Christodoulides. The video raises serious ethical and political questions, as it demonstrates a culture of power without accountability. The President was elected on a narrative of renewal, but the handling of the incident resembles old-party practices. Society does not want communication tricks, but clear answers and taking responsibility by the President. Silence and detachment worsen the situation and undermine political credibility. If the President was unaware of the events, the problem is incompetence. If he knew and tolerated them, the problem is deeper. In both cases, the responsibility is political and personal. Nikos Christodoulides has the opportunity to prove that he is different and to fulfill his promises for a new page in politics.
