Analysis: Can the Government's Eight Support Measures Provide 'Breathing Room'?

The government has announced eight support measures to address inflation and geopolitical uncertainty, however their effectiveness is being questioned. Economist Stelios Platis points out that these measures are relieving, but temporary, as high prices are an accumulative problem that will not be solved immediately. He also emphasizes the need to support tourism, which is a critical pillar of the Cypriot economy, and restore air connectivity after the loss of the national carrier. Mr. Platis also highlights the existence of a social crisis alongside the economic one, as the middle class is shrinking and many citizens are struggling to meet their basic needs. He believes the measures are horizontal and do not adequately target the groups most in need.
