Are We Getting Poorer, Is Anyone Listening?

According to the Statistical Service data for 2024, almost three out of ten Cypriot citizens belong to the lowest income class, while only 7.6% belong to the highest. 14.6% of the population, or 139,930 people, live at risk of poverty with an annual disposable income of up to €12,400, in a country with rising living costs. The middle class, although numerically the majority (64.6%), is in a difficult position, with a large part of it having low incomes. The social gap is widening, but the political debate remains limited.
