Attempt to Silence Nicoletta Tsikkini – ALMA Movement

The ALMA – Citizens for Cyprus Movement denounces an attempt to silence Nicoletta Tsikkini, a member of the Movement’s Executive Committee, by the First Lady and the Christodoulides government. The complaint concerns a request to Ms. Tsikkini to delete public posts critical of them. The Movement characterizes this request as authoritarian and as a continuation of the threats received by Ms. Tsikkini from a member of the CYPA. It believes that this move aims to intimidate and prevent criticism of the government. It points out that public criticism and control of power are fundamental elements of democracy and that Ms. Karsera’s selective sensitivity undermines freedom of expression. The ALMA Movement links the case to the scandal of black donations and the need for accountability. The Movement assures that it will continue to exercise criticism and demand transparency and ethical governance, emphasizing that democracy is not intimidated or blackmailed.
