Cyprus is among the top ten European Union countries with the highest retail electricity prices, according to data from the European Commission for the second quarter of 2025. The price in Cyprus was 309.5 euros per megawatt-hour (30.9 cents/kilowatt-hour), while the EU average was 246 euros/megawatt-hour (24.6 cents/kilowatt-hour). Germany recorded the highest price at 399.6 euros/megawatt-hour, while Hungary had the lowest at 91.8 euros/megawatt-hour. Greece, with a price of 232.6 euros/megawatt-hour, is below the EU average in 19th place. According to the Commission's analysis, retail electricity prices for households in EU capitals increased by 3% in the second quarter of 2025, due to increased taxes and network costs. There was significant variation between countries, with some experiencing double-digit increases and others large decreases. Electricity consumption in the EU remained stable, while the share of renewable energy sources remained at 52% and the share of fossil fuels increased slightly to 25%. In addition, a remarkable increase in electric vehicle sales of 30% was recorded compared to the previous year.
