Connections Between Underworld and Prisoners in Cypriot Prisons

The new Minister of Justice and Public Order, Konstantinos Fytiris, has made the reform of Cypriot prisons a priority. He has already visited the Central Prisons four times and presented a plan for changes, including renaming them the Correctional Institution, improving staff training, and constructing new facilities. A significant problem he aims to address is the connection between prisoners and the underworld, as information suggests some prisoners continue to commit crimes even from within the prisons, directing criminal activities outside. According to figures, the prisons house 1,140 prisoners, 53% of whom are foreign nationals.
