Criminal Organization Dismantled in Larnaca: Two Businessmen Implicated

Published January 24, 2026, 19:09

Authorities in Larnaca have announced a significant blow to organized crime with the arrest of five individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking and protection rackets. The investigation began following an attempted murder of a businessman in July, with a 22-year-old identified as the main suspect and already in custody. According to the investigating officer, videos from one suspect's mobile phone show large sums of money and references to cooperation with two others, suggesting a hierarchical structure within the criminal organization. The 22-year-old allegedly stated that the money came from collecting revenue from a nightclub in the Mackenzie area. The police believe the organization is well-structured, with a 42-year-old acting as the leader and receiving income from illegal activities. Investigations are ongoing to link all five suspects with written testimonies. The court has postponed its decision regarding their detention. In parallel, police are investigating an armed conflict that took place outside the Larnaca ADE, with six arrests made so far. As part of this investigation, the two businessmen involved in the attempted murder case were also arrested, accused of obstructing a police investigation. Both businessmen are being held in custody for four days.
