Cyprus Assumes EU Council Presidency

Cyprus today assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, an event of significant political, institutional, and historical importance. It is the second time Cyprus has taken on this role, after 2012, and is called upon to manage complex issues such as the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, migration, and digital transformation. The Cypriot government has set a goal of a more resilient, united, and geopolitically strong EU, with an emphasis on social cohesion and solidarity. Cyprus's Presidency is particularly significant due to the division of the country and the ongoing Turkish occupation, reminding that the Cyprus issue remains a European matter.
