Cyprus EU Presidency Prioritizes Closer Ties Between EU and Middle East

Bringing the EU closer to the Middle East region is one of the main priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, stated President Nikos Christodoulides, emphasizing that the Arab League can play a significant role in this effort. Specific projects and initiatives, such as the EU Pact, are expected to be emphasized to deepen cooperation. President Christodoulides expressed his satisfaction with the recent visits of the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council to countries in the region, as well as the EU-Egypt Summit and the EU-Jordan Council. He also promotes the start of discussions for a strategic agreement with Lebanon and the wider Middle East.
