Cyprus Hosts EU Meeting on Coordinated Action Against Organized Crime

Organized crime and its combat were the dominant theme at the informal EU Ministers of Interior and Justice meeting in Nicosia. Ministers agreed on the need for coordinated European action to address modern justice challenges, such as drug and arms trafficking, and protection provided by criminal organizations through extortion. Measures discussed included strengthening the recovery of assets from criminal activities and public-private partnerships. The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU is emphasizing the prevention and combating of organized and cross-border crime.
