Cyprus: Justice Minister to Discuss Police Work Hours with Unions

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, will meet with representatives of trade unions representing the Security Forces on January 2nd to discuss issues of concern to them. The unions are prioritizing the issue of police working hours, reacting to a recent circular issued by the Chief of Police. Minister Fytiris emphasized that demands should be promoted through institutional dialogue and not through public disputes. The unions express concern about the unilateral change in working hours, while the Police argue that the change is necessary for the better functioning of the force and more effective protection of citizens.
