Cyprus Parliamentarian Alleges Obstruction of Renewable Energy Development

The President of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Kyriakos Hadjigiannis, has accused authorities of obstructing the development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and energy storage, describing the situation as a “institutional fraud”. He argued that the current legal framework hinders the crackdown on the “black market for licenses” and the reduction of pollutants, artificially maintaining inactive load on the grid and favoring polluting energy sources. He also stated that energy storage is double-charged with network usage fees, increasing costs by approximately 12%. Mr. Hadjigiannis expressed concern over the lack of reactions at the political and social levels, while rejecting the argument of network security as an excuse for the delay.
