Cyprus Police Ready for EU Presidency

The Cyprus Police are in full operational readiness ahead of the country's assumption of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will run from January to June 2026. The General Operational Plan for Policing was presented at the MMA headquarters in Nicosia, with the participation of the Minister of Justice and Public Order. The Minister emphasized the importance of a successful Presidency for Cyprus, as the country will be at the center of Europe for six months, and highlighted the need for security and smooth operation of proceedings. The plan, developed in collaboration with the Presidency Secretariat and other state bodies, aims to ensure the full security of all foreign dignitaries, delegations, and conference participants from their arrival to their departure from the country. It includes detailed procedures for collecting and evaluating information, risk assessment, and the implementation of security measures. Particular emphasis is placed on the security of airports, traffic arrangements and transportation, the protection of accommodation and conference venues, and the management of high-level events. The Minister of Justice congratulated the Police on the preparation of the plan and assured that the Ministry would provide all necessary support. The successful and safe exercise of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union is considered a national responsibility, as Cyprus must guarantee the safety, institutional seriousness, and international credibility of the country during a period of increased European presence and demands. The plan covers the entire spectrum of police activity and constitutes a comprehensive framework for addressing potential challenges.
