Cyprus to Say Goodbye to 2025 with Yellow Alert for Storms

Cyprus is expected to bid farewell to 2025 with a yellow alert for strong thunderstorms along the coasts, according to the Meteorological Service. From the morning of December 30th, cloud cover will gradually increase, with isolated thunderstorms starting from the west and spreading across the island after midnight. This phenomenon is expected to continue until the afternoon of December 31st, with the southeastern coasts being less affected. On New Year's Day, some phenomena will be observed mainly in the west until noon, but the weather is expected to improve by Sunday. Simultaneously, mountainous areas are forecast to experience sleet or snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the possibility of hail during thunderstorms. The Meteorological Service is considering issuing a yellow warning for strong thunderstorms along the coasts from Tuesday evening to Wednesday afternoon. Winds will be southwesterly and variable until Tuesday afternoon, strengthening in the south and southeastern coastal areas in the evening, and eventually becoming strong to very strong (5-6 Beaufort) on Wednesday. Thursday will bring a change in the wind direction, which will continue to affect the island. Regarding temperature, it will range between 14-15 degrees Celsius until Saturday, with a possible temporary drop of 2-3 degrees on Friday. Coastal areas will see temperatures of 15-16 degrees, while nights will see temperatures fall to 4 degrees inland, 6 degrees on the coasts, and 0 degrees in the higher mountains (except for Wednesday and Thursday due to the lack of cloud cover).
