Danish PM Visits Greenland After Trump Backs Down

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen visited Greenland today to demonstrate, as she stated, the “great support” of the Danish people towards the island’s inhabitants, following a turbulent week in which Donald Trump backed down from threats to take over the autonomous Danish territory and agreed to negotiate. Upon landing at Nuuk airport, the capital of Greenland, Frederiksen was greeted by her counterpart, Jens-Frederik Nielsen. The two leaders were seen embracing before driving off together. Frederiksen stated that she was there to show the strong support of the Danish people and that they are in a 'serious situation'. The visit also aims to 'prepare the diplomatic response' to the Americans. She and Nielsen are preparing the next steps. Frederiksen went to Nuuk directly from Brussels where she met with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who today on X emphasized working with the Danish Prime Minister to strengthen defense and deterrence in the Arctic region.
