December Arrivals: Israel Overtakes the United Kingdom

In December 2023, Israel surpassed the United Kingdom as the leading source of tourists to Cyprus, an unusual development given the UK's traditional dominance in first place. According to data from the Statistical Service, total tourist arrivals in December reached 156,959, an increase of 18% compared to December 2022. Israel contributed 19.1% of arrivals (30,020 tourists), while the United Kingdom recorded 19% (29,826 tourists). Poland followed with 11.3%, Germany with 7.4%, and Greece with 7.3%. Israel's rise to the top is likely due to British preferences to stay within the UK for the Christmas holidays, as well as increased competition from other European destinations. Germany and Poland maintained their positions in the top four, with a significant increase in arrivals from Germany (53.5%) and Poland (42.5%). A slight decrease was observed in arrivals from Scandinavian countries, but the overall picture remains positive for Cypriot tourism.
