Difficult Return to Athens for Holidaymakers Due to Farmer Blockades

The return of holidaymakers to Athens is being delayed due to farmer blockades at various points along the national highway. In the area of Lamia, a 3-kilometer queue formed as vehicles were forced to travel in one lane. Despite the temporary lifting of the blockades by farmers to provide an additional lane, traffic remains difficult. At the Martino bridge, a 4-kilometer queue has formed, with vehicles moving in one lane and then being diverted to a bypass road via Thebes and Ritsona. Traffic on the bypass roads is very slow, resulting in a significant increase in travel time for holidaymakers. Traffic Police have taken over the regulation of traffic, but the situation remains problematic. The delay is due to the farmers' mobilizations and the need for detours, causing inconvenience to drivers.
