Easter with Less Cypriot Lamb – Concerns over Quantities and Prices

The approaching Easter season is causing concern in the Cypriot meat industry due to restrictions on animal movement and the impact of foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks. The President of the Pan-Cypriot Butchers Association, Kostas Livadiotis, stated that the availability of Cypriot meat is reduced compared to last year, as a significant portion of the lambs and goats ready for slaughter have been affected. The transportation of animals to slaughterhouses is also problematic, as restrictions prevent the gathering of animals from different units. Furthermore, prices are unstable due to VAT differences and liquidity issues in the sector. Despite the difficulties, the industry is striving to meet the increased Easter demand.
