Enhanced Education for Hospitalized Children: New Protocols from the Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education is expected to implement new protocols from the new school year to provide enhanced education to children hospitalized in Cyprus or abroad, or who are unable to attend classes due to medical problems. This development came after a discussion in the Parliamentary Committee on Education regarding the difficulties faced by children who remain out of school for a long time due to health issues. The Committee had received information about the problems faced by children hospitalized in the Pediatric Oncology Department of Makarios Hospital, as well as children with other serious chronic illnesses or psychiatric disorders. It was found that these children face difficulties in following their lessons and completing their education. The new protocols will include home education, distance learning, and other tools to support children. The importance of psychological support for children and their families was highlighted, as well as the need for teacher training to be able to respond to the specific needs of these children. The state has a duty to provide equal opportunities to all children, including those who are hospitalized or have health problems. The new protocols are an important step in this direction, ensuring that no child is left behind in their education.
