EU Ushers in New Era of Cooperation with Syria

The European Union and Syria have opened a new chapter in their cooperation with the historic visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa to Damascus. The new cooperation is based on three pillars: a new political partnership, strengthening trade, and economic support for humanitarian aid and recovery. The EU is committed to allocating approximately €620 million for the years 2026-2027, aiming to support Syria in areas such as humanitarian assistance and economic recovery. European officials emphasized the importance of peaceful transition, reconciliation, and regional stability.
