European Agenda and Cypriot Stake

The Republic of Cyprus has officially assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, presenting an agenda filled with important issues. Beyond the established ones, Cyprus has added its own goals, with an emphasis on the wider Middle East region, an area that the EU traditionally avoided getting involved in. The Christodoulides Government has managed to change the EU's approach to the region, insisting on the need for greater cooperation. Cyprus, despite the complexity of the European agenda, seeks to effectively manage the challenges and promote its interests. The negotiation of the Multiannual Financial Framework is a key priority, with a positive agreement considered a significant success for the Cypriot Presidency. The most important initiative of Cyprus is the organization of the first EU-Jordan summit and the scheduled summit with Middle Eastern leaders in Cyprus in April. These initiatives mark a new era in European policy, with the EU recognizing the importance of the Middle East and seeking more active cooperation with the countries of the region. President Christodoulides stressed that these summits confirm the substantial upgrading of European regional cooperation, for which Cyprus has worked consistently. Organizing the summit in Cyprus is a significant challenge for the country, given the instability in the region, but also an opportunity to showcase its role as a bridge between Europe and the Middle East.
