European Public Prosecutor's Office Investigates Fidias: Will Operate Without Local Attorney General's Assistance

The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) is investigating potential misuse of European funds by MEP Fidias Panayiotou. According to sources, the EPPO operates autonomously and does not require the assistance of national prosecution authorities. The EPPO informs local authorities only at the start of the investigation or if it determines that the offense does not fall within its jurisdiction. Cypriot prosecutors, acting on behalf of the EPPO, provide instructions to police authorities in the same manner as the Attorney General would for cases under its jurisdiction. The investigation concerns the potential misuse of European funds and is being conducted without the involvement of the Cyprus Attorney General's Office.
