Expert Study on Compensatory Benefits for Ierokipia Municipality Due to Airport

The Municipality of Ierokipia has requested and received a study from a firm of experts regarding the compensatory benefits it should receive due to the operation of Paphos Airport. The request is based on the significant increase in passenger traffic and the ongoing expansions of the airport, which burden the area with problems such as nuisance, traffic congestion, and air pollution. The recent increase in aircraft and passenger traffic strengthens the request, while the refusal of state departments to facilitate the airport's operation due to environmental concerns, exacerbates the situation. The request was initially submitted by the AKEL municipal group and was unanimously accepted by the municipal council. The Municipality proposes as compensation the imposition of a special fee per passenger, the funding of infrastructure and green projects, as well as the improvement of the road network and the support of social and cultural initiatives.
