Explanation Behind the Platres Funnel Cloud That 'Hit' the Christmas Village

Meteorological Department official Andreas Chrysanthou explained that the funnel cloud that hit the Christmas Village in Platres was caused by strong wind shear and surface wind, not by any cloud formation. Platres, due to its location on the windward slopes of the mountains, is exposed to westerly winds and is more prone to such phenomena when a strong wind field is present. The funnel cloud caused damage to tents at the Christmas Village, according to the Platres Community Council.
