Fidias Panagiotou Faces Scrutiny Over Assistants' Payments

MEP Fidias Panagiotou is facing criticism regarding the payment of his assistants. He claims to be pre-paying their salaries due to bureaucratic delays from the European Parliament, with the assistants returning the money when they receive their payment from the Parliament. However, Alexandra Attalidou, former Press Spokesperson of the European Parliament in Cyprus, categorically denies the existence of payment delays directly from the European institution. Attalidou explains that MEPs are entitled to employ up to four accredited assistants who are paid by the European Parliament, while other assistants are paid by the MEP himself through a representative. Therefore, any problems with the payment of Panagiotou's assistants should be attributed to other factors and not to the European Parliament.
