Foot-and-mouth disease has led to the culling of 29,731 animals in Cyprus, with 49 infected herds (46 in Larnaca and 3 in Nicosia). Specifically, 28,019 sheep and goats and 1,712 cattle have been culled, with an additional 240 sheep and goats and 150 cattle expected to be culled. The percentage of infected sheep and goat units is 1.79% and 5.7% in animal population, while for cattle the corresponding percentages are 1.87% and 2.2%. Vaccination has been completed in 98% of the cattle population and 75% of the sheep and goat population, while the second dose has been administered to 30% of cattle and 10% of sheep and goats. Sampling, tracing and epidemiological investigations continue.
