Former Cypriot President George Vassiliou Hospitalized in Serious Condition

Former President of the Republic of Cyprus, George Vassiliou, has been hospitalized in serious condition at the General Hospital of Nicosia since January 6, 2026. Spokesman for the Cyprus Public Health Authority (OKYPY), Pambos Charilaou, stated that Mr. Vassiliou is receiving appropriate medical care, but refrained from providing details about his condition, respecting the family's wishes. The Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, visited the hospital to be briefed on the former President's health. George Vassiliou, 94, served as President of Cyprus from 1988 to 1993.
