French Court Rejects Cyprus' Request to Extradite Iranian for Property Theft

A French court has definitively rejected a request from the Republic of Cyprus to extradite an Iranian national accused of usurping Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories. Tufan Erhurman, a representative of the Turkish Cypriot side, commented that the rejection was due to the fact that European law does not apply in the occupied territories. He emphasized that the property issue is part of the Cyprus negotiations and that the 'Immovable Property Commission' is a domestic legal remedy. The Iranian national argues that the charges relate to an area outside the control of the Republic of Cyprus and that the court found the evidence insufficient.
