Greece, Israel, and Cyprus to Intensify Joint Military Exercises

Greece, Israel, and Cyprus have agreed to intensify their joint military exercises in the eastern Mediterranean by 2026, deepening their defense cooperation. The agreement, signed in Cyprus, includes joint naval and air exercises, as well as the transfer of expertise from Israel to Greece and Cyprus to counter various threats. Greece plans to participate in Israel's Noble Dina naval exercise in the coming months. This strengthening of cooperation follows a meeting of the three countries' leaders in Jerusalem, where they signed an agreement to enhance maritime security and promote energy interconnection projects. Defense cooperation between the three countries has increased in recent years, with Greece and Cyprus already having purchased missile systems from Israel. Furthermore, Greece is in talks to purchase anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic missile systems from Israel as part of the 'Achilles Shield' program, estimated to cost 3 billion euros. The Greek parliament has already approved the purchase of 36 PULS rocket artillery systems from Israel. This move is being closely monitored by Turkey, which is considered a regional rival of the three countries. The strengthening of defense cooperation between Greece, Israel, and Cyprus marks a significant development in the geopolitical situation in the eastern Mediterranean.
