Greek Farmers Continue Protests, Blocking Roads and Bypass Routes

Farmers continue their protests across Greece, blocking roads and bypass routes, despite efforts to facilitate the New Year's Eve exodus. The blockades have caused significant delays, with drivers taking up to 12 hours for journeys such as Thessaloniki-Athens. There is disagreement among the farmers, with some insisting on escalating the protests and others showing a willingness to dialogue. Specifically, the bypass of the PATHE in Bralos, the Patras Ring Road, the Ionian Road near the Angelokastro tolls, and roads in Ileia have been closed. Farmers are sticking to their demands, which concern fuel oil, payments, and the overall survival of the agricultural world. Minister of Rural Development, Kostas Tsiaras, stated that the ball of dialogue is in the hands of the farmers and that the government is open to discussion, but with respect for democratic rules. He emphasized that pressure and ridicule cannot be exerted and that democracy has terms that must be respected by all. Farmers have scheduled new blockades and bypass routes for today, aiming to put more pressure on the government. At the same time, they state that they will continue to show social responsibility and facilitate the movement of travelers, where possible.
