Greek Farmers Launch New Round of Protests – Roads and Customs Blocked Nationwide

Farmers in Greece have begun a new cycle of protests, with road and customs blockades across the country. The blockade in Nikea has closed all roads, main and alternative, making it difficult to travel from the southern part of mainland Greece to the north. They have also suspended tolls on the Evangelismos highway, distributing products to drivers. Specifically, both exits of the Thessaloniki-Athens highway at Malgara and the Promachonas customs office for trucks have been closed. The Evzonas customs office is also expected to close temporarily. The farmers state they will not back down unless the government commits to fulfilling their demands. However, they plan to temporarily ease the protests on Tuesday, January 30th, to facilitate the departure of New Year's travelers. Nevertheless, an escalation of the protests is expected after the new year, with a nationwide meeting scheduled for January 3rd, either in Malgara or Nikea, to determine the next steps.
