Growing Public Insecurity

A recent violent assault involving beatings and shootings in a central location in Larnaca, near the Police Headquarters, highlights the problem of uncontrolled activity by organized crime groups in Cyprus. This incident, along with others in Limassol, suggests the involvement of foreigners in criminal activities. Crime, particularly drug trafficking and economic crime, has been a long-standing threat to Cyprus. There is growing concern and anxiety about the sense of insecurity among citizens, and the Police and the Judiciary are called upon to act decisively and effectively. Strict enforcement of the law, including the immediate deportation of foreigners involved in illegal activities and the thorough investigation of the activities of known criminals, is considered essential to restore security.
