The Pharmaceutical Services of Cyprus have issued a strict warning regarding the illegal import of drugs and injectable preparations via suitcases by healthcare professionals and others. This practice, mainly from Greece, endangers public health as quality and safety checks are bypassed. According to the Pharmaceutical Services, the import, possession, trafficking, and distribution of drugs are only permitted through the legal supply chain and only by individuals with the necessary licenses. The illegal import and distribution of drugs constitutes a serious violation of the law and will be dealt with with zero tolerance. The circular was sent to professional associations and healthcare organizations, calling for compliance. Checks will be intensified, and in the event of a detected violation, sanctions will follow, such as referral to the prosecution authorities and the imposition of administrative fines. This practice concerns drugs for weight loss, aesthetic purposes, various conditions, and hormonal preparations.
