Investigation Launched After Channel 4 Documentary Exposes Exploitation in Ayia Napa

Cyprus Police have launched an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation of British women in Ayia Napa, following the release of a Channel 4 documentary. Journalist Tir Dhondy worked undercover as a hairdresser to investigate reports regarding working and living conditions in organized work-stay packages. The documentary captures appalling working conditions, sexual harassment, threats, and illegal employment, with some workers being as young as 16-17 years old. Bar and nightclub owners are recorded boasting about incidents of harassment. The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, acknowledged that isolated incidents may occur, but stressed that they do not represent the overall picture of the area.
