Karousos Raises Concerns Over Limassol Port Director Position

Yiannis Karousos, President of the Committee for the Return of Morphou, has raised strong objections regarding the recent announcement for a Director position at the Limassol Port, which utilizes the service plan for the Director of the Port of Morphou. Mr. Karousos describes this move as an institutional, administrative, and political error, as the position of Director of the Port of Morphou holds symbolic and national importance, being inextricably linked to the occupied city. He points out that creating two Director positions in Limassol with the same service plan is unjustified and unacceptable. Mr. Karousos emphasizes that Morphou cannot be diminished through administrative maneuvers and that the Director of the Port of Morphou position should not be used as a “loophole”. If the Cyprus Ports Authority intends to fill a “Harbour Master” type position, it should create a new position with a new service plan and clear duties. Mr. Karousos requests that the Cyprus Ports Authority provide immediate answers regarding the position's inclusion in the budget and the city to which it refers. If no provision exists, he calls for the immediate suspension of the process and correction of the error. The statement by Mr. Karousos suggests a deeper disagreement regarding the management of positions of responsibility in the ports and the need to respect the historical and national significance of Morphou.
