Makarios Hospital on Alert for Flu, RSV and Other Infections

Makarios Hospital in Cyprus is recording an increase in cases of seasonal infections, such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), in its Pediatric Clinic. The Clinic Director, Dr. Elena Papamichael, states that the hospital is on full alert to address a potential further increase in cases. Although there is an increase in cases, the Pediatric Clinic is not overcrowded. Currently, one child is hospitalized with RSV, and four children are recovering from influenza A and other comorbidities. No coronavirus cases have been hospitalized in recent days. Dr. Papamichael notes that the period from January to March is traditionally characterized by an increase in seasonal infections and that the numbers are comparable to last year's period. However, there is a possibility of a further increase in the coming days. The hospital has readiness from its Intensive Care Units to manage severe cases. In the event of a large influx, there is cooperation with other hospitals of the OKYPY. Parents are urged to follow the instructions of pediatricians and promote the vaccination of vulnerable children.
