Man Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Possession of Two Kilograms of Cannabis

A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Larnaca Criminal Court for possession of two kilograms of cannabis with intent to supply. The case was revealed in April 2025, when the YKAN (Cyprus Drug Squad) received information that the 37-year-old was storing drugs at his property. During a search, the man attempted to flee by throwing a package containing one kilogram of cannabis. Another package with a similar amount was found inside his property. The 37-year-old initially claimed that the drugs were given to him by another person for safekeeping, but he was found guilty. The defense requested leniency due to his minor children, but the court cited existing case law, which gives limited weight to personal circumstances in serious drug cases. The 37-year-old also had a previous conviction for a drug-related offense, which aggravated his sentence. The case demonstrates the strict approach to drug crimes in Cyprus.
