Meloni Calls for Europe to Re-engage in Dialogue with Russia

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has stated that Europe should re-establish dialogue with Russia in order to find a solution to the war in Ukraine. However, she emphasized that it is too early to discuss the reintegration of Russia into the G7. Meloni agrees with French President Emmanuel Macron that Europe must re-engage in dialogue with Moscow, as participating in negotiations with only one side will limit Europe's ability to contribute positively to resolving the crisis. She proposes the appointment of a special European envoy for direct contact with Vladimir Putin, in order to avoid the disorganized nature of current European negotiation efforts. She believes that polyphony and lack of coordination hinder the achievement of results. Meloni reiterated that Italy has no intention of sending troops to Ukraine to secure a potential peace agreement, emphasizing that the priority is a diplomatic approach.
