Mousiouttas: Pension Reform, Minimum Wage and Tripartite Cooperation are Priorities

The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, held the first session of the Labour Advisory Body, where issues such as pension reform, the minimum wage, the bill on the adequacy of minimum wages, and the decree on third-country students were discussed. The Minister stressed the importance of tripartite cooperation for labour peace and improving the standard of living. Pension reform was characterized as a flagship action of the Government, with the aim of implementing it in 2027. The discussion will continue immediately, following the update provided by the actuary. Regarding the minimum wage, social partners were informed of the Council of Ministers’ decision and the issuance of the relevant decree, which will take effect on January 1, 2026. The bill on the adequacy of minimum wages will continue in the relevant Committee, taking into account the recent decision of the European Court of Justice in Denmark, with the aim of quickly submitting it to Parliament. Regarding the decree on third-country students, the views of the parties will be submitted in writing, so that the Minister can decide on possible changes. Finally, the extension of collective bargaining agreements was discussed, with the Minister reiterating the need to complete the relevant bill as soon as possible. In addition, it was reported that trade unions have requested a meeting with the President of the Republic, in which the Minister of Labour will also participate.
