New Photovoltaic Scheme Locked In – State Subsidy Only with Storage

The new subsidy scheme for photovoltaic systems, launching in 2026, will differ from the previous 'Photovoltaics for All' scheme. The key change is that state subsidies will only be provided for installations that also include an energy storage system (batteries). Furthermore, the method of offsetting generated and consumed energy will change from net metering to net billing, where the calculation will be based on the price of each kilowatt-hour at any given time. The Ministry of Energy is expected to announce the details of the new scheme soon. To date, over 88,000 consumers have installed photovoltaic systems in Cyprus, with the majority of installations located in the province of Nicosia.
