NGOs Report Over 2,000 Deaths in Iran During Protests

The human rights advocacy group HRANA announced today that it has confirmed the deaths of 2,003 people during the unrest in Iran. Of these, 1,850 were protesters, 135 were linked to the government, nine were under the age of 18, and nine were citizens not involved in the protests. Meanwhile, the non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights (IHR), based in Norway, announced that at least 734 protesters have been killed since the start of the protest movement, but estimates that the actual number of deaths could be much higher, possibly thousands. IHR continues to receive reports of deaths in various cities and provinces across Iran. These announcements highlight the seriousness of the situation in Iran and the human consequences of the suppression of protests.
