Nicosia Awaits Olguin to Learn More About Meeting with Kallas

Maria Angela Olguin, the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, is expected in Cyprus next week for a series of contacts regarding the Cyprus issue. Previously, she met with the High Representative of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, in Brussels. Nicosia views the Olguin-Kallas contact positively, as it signals the involvement of the EU in the Cyprus process. However, questions arise regarding the content of the discussion, given that Kallas does not have direct involvement in the Cyprus issue, but deals with European-Turkish issues. In the meeting on Tuesday between President Christodoulides and Olguin, a more detailed briefing on the discussion with Kallas will be sought. The government wants to clarify whether the discussion was limited to Cypriot-European-Turkish issues or whether other issues were covered, such as Turkey's role in Ukraine. Olguin will have separate meetings with the leaders of the two communities, Christodoulides and Erhurman, on January 27th, followed by a joint meeting the next day, as a continuation of efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue.
