Overhauling Secondary Education: Equipping Cypriot Youth with Modern Skills for the New Job Market

The Cypriot government is promoting a series of reforms in Secondary General Education (SGE) to address the mismatch between the skills acquired by students and the demands of the modern labor market. These actions are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and specifically the C5.1R1 Reform. A National Action Plan has already been approved, and the upgrade of 40 Curricula has been completed, with an emphasis on subjects such as Science, Informatics, and Technology. This upgrade aims to integrate skills such as emotional intelligence, soft skills, entrepreneurial skills, green skills, and citizenship skills. Simultaneously, the digital transformation of schools is being promoted to enhance digital skills and STEM skills. These reforms are considered crucial for strengthening the competitiveness of the Cypriot economy and ensuring sustainable employment for young people.
